Two apartment towers are poised to rise over a busy stretch of Morrissey Boulevard following a key city vote.
Boston-based real estate development firm Copper Mill intends to start construction next year on a $450 million residential project at 75 Morrissey Blvd., where the long-empty Channel 56 building now stands. The project is part of a nine-acre master planned development area near the MBTA JFK-UMass Red Line station.
It will house 754 apartments, spread between two 18-story towers, with one fronting Interstate 93 and the other fronting Morrissey Boulevard. The residential towers will immediately abut the former Boston Globe headquarters, which is now a creative office and lab building dubbed “Southline,” and would include ground-floor retail space and a community park.
