Some of the biggest investors in commercial real estate — private equity firms and property trusts not tied to the stock market — posted poor showings in 2023 when it came to fundraising.New industry reports show that private equity firms raised their lowest amount of investment capital in 11 years, while nontraded real estate investment trusts hauled in their lowest amount in five years. What wasn’t different for the year is that funds in both sectors sponsored by Blackstone, led by its $114 billion in assets real estate Blackstone Real Estate Income Trust, received the largest share of the capital raised.
