The Zoning Board of Appeal yesterday approved a proposal to replace a repair garage with a five-story, 36-unit apartment building at 3458 Washington St., at Kenton Road in Jamaica Plain.
The proposed building would be across Kenton from Hatoff’s gas station, which itself could be replaced by apartments.
Developer Adam Burns of South Boston’s proposal to replace the Keegan’s garage includes eight affordable units, a parking lot for seven vehicles and a small ground-floor commercial space.
The proposal needed variances for several reasons, including that the lot’s zoning prohibits multi-family housing, and that the building wouldn’t have a loading dock or enough parking under the area’s more general zoning.
The Boston Planning Department approved the project in January.
